TASTING NOTES
From limestone-rich soils on the banks of the Dordogne, this powerful wine contains Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends, with layers of plum and dark fruits with flint and toasty oak.
SEASON
Bordeaux 2018 will be remembered as an outstanding vintage with wines of full ripeness, fruit intensity and high alcohol. Yields were close to average and of excellent quality for the great majority; some few were adversely affected by difficult conditions including hailstorms in May and July and very high rainfall in March and April leading to high disease pressure. The latter half of the season was textbook perfect for ripening and harvesting late-ripening red varieties, with warm, dry conditions throughout July, August, September and into October.
WINEMAKING
The fruit was destemmed then fermented in stainless steel and concrete fermenters. The wine was matured in a mix of new and seasoned French oak for 12 months before bottling at the estate.
The Medoc is a celebrated wine appellation in the Bordeaux region of south-west France. The region is famous for its grand chateaux.
The best vineyards are planted on well-drained sandy gravels in the southern Medoc, while in the north, closer to where the Gironde drains into the Atlantic, the soils are heavier clays.
