TASTING NOTES

Using the finest fruit from the select blocks at our vineyard in Yarra Glen, this wine has deep fruit flavours, fine tannin and the silky-smooth palate we expect of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir.

SEASON

The 2017 Yarra Valley season was one out of the box - just enough and not too much of everything. The moderate season allowed the vines to ripen slowly, building great depth of flavour while retaining fine balance in sugar and acid. Harvest began in early-March, a little later than the long-term average and somewhat of a relief after the record-early vintage of 2016. This is a vintage in which the true personality of the vineyard takes centre stage.

WINEMAKING

- Hand picked and hand sorted
- Hand plunged in open fermenters
- Matured for 11 months in a mix of old and new French oak (% of new)
- Select block of fruit off the HBH vineyard
- Vineyard is maintained using organic principles – interrow planting, organic mulch, minimal pesticides

One of Australia’s premier cool climate wine regions, the Yarra Valley encompasses such diverse topography that it can produce premium quality fruit in a range of grape varieties.

With its stunning hills and dales ranged before a backdrop of blue mountains, elevations vary greatly. The climate is Mediterranean with a maritime influence from Port Phillips.

The landscape of Highbow Hill Vineyard features established vines planted on rolling hills. Eucalyptus and gum trees are widespread with a diverse range of soils ranging from sandy loam to yellow clays.
