TASTING NOTES

A full-bodied wine with ripe cassis and blackberry flavours rich oak character, robust tannin and the dash of mint that is classic Coonawarra.

SEASON

Good rain over winter was followed by dry and warm weather in spring and flowering occurred early. Fruit set was even and yields were slightly below average, leading to good balance between bunches and canopy. Dry conditions continued into summer until refreshing rain mid-January. Late summer and autumn provided perfect conditions for ripening of Cabernet fruit – dry with warm days and cool nights. Despite the early start to the season, the relatively cool summer brought the harvest back into line with the long-term average.

WINEMAKING

This wine is from select vineyards on the terra rossa strip; the vines are aged between 20 and 50 years. The fruit was picked at the end of March and into April. Small bunches of small, thick-skinned berries created this wine of excellent concentration and firm tannin. The wine was matured in a mix of old and new French oak for 18 months.
