2024 HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION
"A finer offering off the Capella vineyard this vintage, although plenty of juicy fruit leading the way. Very tangy and succulent thanks to refreshing acidity yet you’ll find fine tannins and the savoury/smoky tones of the oak adding to the depth and texture across the lighter-framed palate. The finish is long and pure. Captivating."
Jane Faulkner - Published 2 August 2023
THE REAL REVIEW - 95 POINTS

“Deep and bright red with a good purple tint; aromas are sweetly ripe and clean, with blackberry, five-spice and gently charcuterie-like overtones, a nip of smoky oak but the fruit is the thing. It's intense and lush on the palate, fresh and vital with lovely texture and fleshy presence that lasts till the very end. Excellent wine.” 95pt Huon Hooke – The Real Review January 2023

A NOTE FROM THE WINEMAKERS

These wines are not only the pinnacle expression of our Capella site, but also a true reflection of our commitment to sustainable winemaking and organic practices. Our efforts are aimed to improve the quality of the wines and the experience of what’s in the glass, and we’ve been recognised for both.

We are proud of recently obtained its Organic Certification* and achieved ‘Certified Member’ status from Sustainable Winegrowing Australia – making of our vineyard the first and only in the Mornington Peninsula to carry both titles.

As we celebrate the 10th year anniversary of Capella Vineyard, we recognise our fortune as custodians of this site; and we understand the responsibility we have in ensuring that its terroir continues to speak through the wines we craft – honest wines with a supreme sense of place and we are humbled by their critical acclaim.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Pinot Noir

ORIGIN
Capella Vineyard, Mornington Peninsula, VIC Australia.

CRAFTING & AGEING
This wine was grown and made at Handpicked’s Capella Vineyard near the shores of Western Port on the Mornington Peninsula. The original 6ha of vineyard was planted in 2007 and new sections were added in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The Pinot Noir clones are MV6, 115, Abel, 777 and 776. The vines are hand pruned and hand harvested as part of the overall ultra premium management plan. Mulch, hormonal pest control, interrow crops, mechanical weed control and organic fertilisers are among the management techniques used to improve soil biodiversity and vitality and overall vineyard health.

The site is NASAA Certified Organic (Nov ’22) and SWA accredited (Dec ‘22).

AROMA & PALATE
The aromas are classic Pinot Noir cherries, strawberries and earthy spice with the purity and perfume we have come to expect of Capella Vineyard. The palate combines power and grace with great texture and silky smooth tannin.

Soils vary from the red volcanic earth on the spine of hills running down the centre of the peninsula to grey clay loams on the plains.
