Dr Gene Sherman AM is a leading Australian cultural figure and philanthropist. She is Founder, Executive and Artistic Director of the Sherman Centre for Culture and Ideas (SCCI), established in 2017 as a cultural-exchange platform focusing on contemporary fashion and architecture.

In her 33-year career as a cultural leader in the Asia Pacific and Australia, with additional longstanding projects linking the Middle East and Europe to our region, Dr Sherman has lectured widely on contemporary art, literature, architecture and fashion. Join Dr Sherman at Handpicked Wines as she shares thoughts on her personal relationship to collecting and curating in the worlds of art, fashion, design and architecture on the global stage.

Through examples of contemporary art, avant-garde fashion and her forthcoming venture – the 2019 SCCI Architecture Hub – Dr Sherman will explore the role that collecting and curating has played in her life: from her childhood in South Africa, to formation of the Gene and Brian Sherman Collection of contemporary art, to the Gene Sherman Fashion Collection and watershed exhibitions at Sherman Galleries (1986-2007) and the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (2008-2017).
